COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

The Whole Person
The Whole Person is an organization run primarily by disabled for disabled on both sides of the state line. They assist newly disabled to gain access to their community as well as desired services and programs. They emphasize peer relationships and peer role models. This involves counseling from those who have “been there” in the areas of both technical and coping skills in their everyday life. Many who had no one to turn to for a scooter, lift or other device have benefited from the kindness and experienced wisdom of those who care.

The Whole Person, Inc. began in 1978 and a majority of its staff and board of directors are people with disabilities. This wonderful organization assists people who want to get back to work. This includes dealing with income exclusion programs that protects Social Security and other benefits, which can be severely hurt by those who re-enter the work force. The Whole Person is also skilled at dealing with the myriad of government programs, what one can expect, and how to access and qualify for them.
